Automatic Prediction of Hit Songs
نویسندگان
چکیده
hit song detection, music classification We explore the automatic analysis of music to identify likely hit songs. We extract both acoustic and lyric information from each song and separate hits from non-hits using standard classifiers, specifically Support Vector Machines and boosting classifiers. Our features are based on global sounds learnt in an unsupervised fashion from acoustic data or global topics learnt from a lyrics database. Experiments on a corpus of 1700 songs demonstrate performance that is much better than random. The lyric-based features are slightly more useful than the acoustic features in correctly identifying hit songs. Concatenating the two features does not produce significant improvements. Analysis of the lyric-based features shows that the absence of certain semantic information indicates that a song is more likely to be a hit.

Hit Song Prediction for Pop Music by Siamese CNN with Ranking Loss
A model for hit song prediction can be used in the pop music industry to identify emerging trends and potential artists or songs before they are marketed to the public. While most previous work formulates hit song prediction as a regression or classification problem, we present in this paper a convolutional neural network (CNN) model that treats it as a ranking problem. Specifically, we use a c...
متن کاملEmbedding Songs and Tags for Playlist Prediction
Automatic playlist generation can be a useful tool to navigate the myriad choices available to users in music services today. Here, we present our recent work on explicitly modeling playlists without requiring external similarity measures. Our Logistic Markov Embedding is trained directly on historical playlist data and can unify songs and (when available) social tags in a Euclidean space. The ...
متن کاملMusic recognition by children with cochlear implants
Poor pitch resolution interferes with cochlear implant users’ ability to recognize music from pitch cues alone. We examined the possibility that prelingually deaf implant users could identify familiar hit songs from commercial recordings presented with or without words. Young implant users 8–18 years of age and age-matched hearing controls attempted to identify original and altered recordings o...
متن کاملContent-based Music Information Retrieval System with Automatic DJ Mixing
We will demonstrate our content-based music information retrieval system with automatic DJ mixing, which proposes a new, entertaining way to listen to MIR results. Typical MIR systems present MIR results to the user in a list format, from which users select and play songs. In order to improve this dull user experience, our system not only conducts content-based MIR, but also automatically mixes...
متن کاملEasy As CBA: A Simple Probabilistic Model for Tagging Music
Many songs in large music databases are not labeled with semantic tags that could help users sort out the songs they want to listen to from those they do not. If the words that apply to a song can be predicted from audio, then those predictions can be used both to automatically annotate a song with tags, allowing users to get a sense of what qualities characterize a song at a glance. Automatic ...
